Visit remote island beaches We start the day with a slow cruise across the lagoon from Simpson Bay to Marigot, passing under the French draw bridge. Thereafter, at a comfortable cruising speed of approximately 25 mph., we will follow an inshore coastal meander passing Fort Louis Marina, Happy Bay, and the idyllic Friars Bay beach. Grand Case then follows with our first stop at the pristine location of Creole Rock. Arguably one of the finest snorkel locations that Sint Maarten / Saint Martin has to offer. Keen snorkellers should take full advantage of what is on offer at this dive site. Mid morning fruit and refreshments are then served.
A family adventure Leaving Creole Rock, we head for the southern tip of Anguilla, and navigate our way through the narrow passage with Anguillita. Turning north into the sheltered lee of Anguilla we now set our sights on Sandy Island. Surrounded by spectacular coral reef formations, Sandy Island is picture perfect. Garfield will gently come to rest on her own mooring, or stern-to the beach for ease of access. After enjoying the colorful underwater delights Sandy has to offer, relax under the beach umbrellas for lunch. A picnic lunch is on offer together with a refill of your favourite beverage. As the afternoon wears on, we are on the move again.
Perhaps a swim off the famous Mallihouna Hotel in Meads Bay, or even another snorkel in Cove bay. Prevailing conditions will dictate the most suitable locations based upon years of experience in these waters. Now it’s back across the channel to Sint Maarten. The 5 mile crossing will be as quick as a flash, just in time for drinks to be topped up. La Samana, located on Long Bay, is always a crowd pleaser: a beautiful destination under the limestone cliffs at the very tip of Long Bay. Good snorkeling along the overhanging cliffs or maybe another stroll along the manicured beach will appeal to you. Enjoy afternoon snacks and unwind with another rum punch as the end of the day draws near. Returning at sunset Time permitting, a final swim at the ever-popular Mullet Bay beach never disappoints. As we head for home, you will gain an interesting perspective of all the Dutch Side hot spots from the water. Maho, Sunset beach and Bamboo Bernies are just a stone throw away. And keep a lookout for landing aircraft. If perfectly timed, commercial planes will pass directly overhead as the touchdown just beyond the beach. Finally Simpson Bay beckons. Passing under the Dutch Bridge we enter the Lagoon once again. |
